Magpie

I made a nest in the same style as a magpie using hay and mud as the lining. I then demonstrated my magpie-esk tendancys by displaying my jewellery. I liked the content of the piece but I do not think it communicated my idea very well through the materials I was using, plus I needed to expand on the subject to communicate my idea. I then created a collage of a magpie with a nest full of shiny things using coffee for the bird, pencil sharpenings as the nest and glitter as the collected memorabilia. The coffee left out became damp for the moisture in the air and created a goo-ey surface so I wrapped it in cling film to document in my sketchbook.

Mr and Mrs Bower - Returned

The box I sent was returned like this....hmm thankyou Royal Mail. The aspect I like most about this is its journey: these postcards have been collected over the years from thousands of miles away, chosen because my grandparents responded to them through their colour, texture or shape. This started my thinking of what else responds to things through colour, texture and shape, like the brief is asking me to do. I came up with a magpie.
